Donner Party: Our investigation will be the site of the tragic encampment of the ill-fated Donner Party who entered the Sierra Nevada Mountains late in the year and became snowbound. In mid-August 1846, when many pioneers were heading for California, a group of eighty-nine people known as the Donner Party chose to take a short cut in their trek. This decision, which required them to cut a thirty mile road through Utah's Wasatch Mountains, would seal the fate for almost half the emigrants.

The Donner Party arrived in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, but found the mountain pass closed due to three-feet of snow. They build a makeshift camp, but the Donner Family had lagged behind and their group had to stop at Alder Creek when a wagon axel broke. The group could only make tents out of animal skins and branches. When rescued, nine at Alder Creek had died of starvation and exposure to the cold - and a few of the survivors had reportedly turned to cannibalism. Recent investigations provide evidence that the historical site marked by the State is incorrect and the actual site where the makeshift tents erected is in another location that we will be investigating.

Read the detailed account of the Donnery Party written by Dr. Sharon Gill.

No one has done EVP at this new location, so we will be the first to obtain voices from the Donner Party. Dave will be testing out his new TEC Ultrasonic Receiver during this investigation.
