Rhode Island's Vampire

This is picture taken at the grave site of Mercy Brown in Rhode Island. The local history tells of how she was suspected of being a vampire. After Mercy's death, in the late 1800s, other members of her family were becoming ill. They exhumed her body 3 months after her death and found no signs of decomposition. Her hair and nails had actually grown. This they saw as proof that she was a vampire. They removed her heart and burnt it on nearby rock. The legend said that the ashes fed to a victim of the vampire would cure them.

Stories of Vampires in Rhode Island in the 1800's are as common as the witchs in Salem in the 1600's. Mercy Brown is Rhode Islands most famous case. The grave sight is said to haunted by her spirit.

Dave's Notes:
If Mercy Brown was not a vampire, the desecration of her body may cause her spirit to mourn and perhaps be earthbound.
