The "Blues" Ghost

The Ghost of a Legendary Blues Player

This photos were submitted to us by Al Collier of the Anglo American Spiritual Page at http://www.arkansas.net/~spirit/. His new email address is: spirit@arkansas.net .

The picture was taken in June of 1996 on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. Beale Street was the "colored downtown" for Memphis until segregation. The statue is of W.C. (Doc) Handy, who is credited with inventing the Blues. As earlier as 1909 Doc would perform free concerts in the park where the photo was taken. Today, Beale Street is about 4 blocks long, lined with dozens of Blue's clubs. Several times a year the street is closed to autos and it is a long party street. Walking the street you can hear the music from different clubs drifting about.
