Battle of Chickamauga

These photos are from the Civil War Battle of Chickamauga in Northern Georgia. This was the first Military Park established to honor the dead of both the Confederate Army of Tennessee and Federal Army of the Cumberland. During the time this Park was established, Gettysburg was still a Union Memorial Only battleground, not allowing any Confederate markers to be placed marking their positions.

The photo of the cabin and cannon was taken at Snodgrass Hill and is where the Green Eye Monster myth centers around. Many Civil War soldiers reported seeing a human shaped figure with green glowing eyes walk amid the fallen wounded and dead after the battle. After the battle, there was a large number of missing soliders not accounted for, perhaps the green eye beast was feasting on the plentiful supply of food. Local Indian legends tell of a large hairy creatue that would steal their children at night. Legends abound of this Green Eye hairy beast of the woods. In the early 1970's one motorist crashed his vehicle when a green eye beast crossed in front of his vehicle. Modern day Park Rangers have reported seeing a large green eye beast cross in front of their vehicles on foggy night, only to disappear immediatly in the fog.
