The Badlands got its name in the 1800's from the Sioux indians and French fur traders who thought this area was bad and totally worthless. According to historians, the ancestors of many animals of today, saber-toothed cats, miniature camels and horses and gigantic rhinoceros-like beasts lived in this region about 30 million years ago.
We have included a few photos we took as we traveled on the West end of the National Park to the East side of the National Park. The Badland National Park was established in 1939.
